Walk the Shikoku’s Pilgrimage of the 88 Temples! (only a part)

Ohenro, in Japanese, means “Pilgrimage.” The Shikoku Ohenro is one of the most famous pilgrimages in Japan, consisting of 88 sacred sites scattered throughout Shikoku Prefecture. Nowadays, people from all over the peninsula come to Shikoku to start this special journey.

Japanese people do it mainly to pray for a sick family member, find success in their businesses, or simply for tourism purposes. During the pilgrimage, participants wear white pilgrim clothes and walk from one temple to another, offering prayers to the gods immersed in the beautiful nature of Shikoku Prefecture.

In this tour, you will also have the opportunity to experience this life-changing journey. You will take a symbolic 20-minute walk from Ryozenji Temple (the first temple of the pilgrimage) to Gokurakuji Temple, dressed in the traditional white pilgrim robes, and recite sutras with a member of our staff!

Shirotori Shrine: the lowest mountain in Japan

Shirotori Jinja, located in Higashikagawa City, is a Shrine surrounded by pine forest that, for its peculiar colours and beauty, was used many times as a set for historical drama (and is also part of the Setonaikai National Park). The shrine has magnificent main hall dedicated to Emperor Yamato Takeru as its main deity. Other interesting points of this Shrine are the colorful windmills that you can find near the entrance, the lowest “mountain” in Japan at 3.6 meters above sea level, and an 800-year-old camphor tree!

The lowest mountain in Japan

We will hike up the lowest mountain in Japan! Once we reach the summit, we plan to offer a certificate of completion to commemorate this success!

Nakatsu Banshoen, a Japanese Garden (Day 2)

Nakatsu Banshoen is a traditional Japanese garden in Marugame City.
Here you will be able to see:
・Hakkei Pond, that is inspired by the eight views of the Omi Prefecture, a tribute to the Marugame feudal lord’s roots in Shiga Prefecture.
・the pictoresque red Bridge you see in the picture
・Red Torii Walk that reminds of the iconic Fushimi Inari.
・a 600-Year-Old Pine Tree with an interesting triangular shape!
・the ancient Teahouse of the Lord of Marugame
