Bettei Oborozukiyo [Ryokan & Onsen (hot-spring)]
Bettei Oborozukiyo, which translates to “hazy moonlit night” in English, is a ryokan located in Dogo Onsen, the oldest hot spring area in Japan that has been beloved by travelers for over 3000 years!
In fact, it is just a 5-minute walk from the Dogo Onsen Main Building, which many of you may know as the inspiration for the bathhouse in “Spirited Away” by Hayao Miyazaki and because it was often frequented by the writer Natsume Soseki. In close proximity to this historically significant place, visited by people from all around the world, you will discover a tranquil ryokan where you can experience peace and relaxation.
Setouchi Retreat Aonagi [Hotel & Onsen (hot-spring)]
A hotel and a museum!
Setouchi Retreat Aonagi is one of the beauties of Setouchi Region, a building designed by the worldy renowned architect Tadao Ando, known for his other works such as Naoshima Island’s “Chichu Art Museum”, “Benesse House” and “ANDO MUSEUM”.
In line with Ando’s signature style, this hotel concept aims to create a construction that harmonizes with the surrounding nature. Experience the essence of “minimal luxury” and find calmness in the stillness.
Murakami Kaizoku Museum
On the second day of our trip, you will learn about the Murakami Kaizoku (pirates-like navigators) of Setouchi! First, we will visit the Murakami Kaizoku Museum, where you can discover the history behind these almost legendary figures.
Unlike the pirates portrayed in movies, they were highly skilled sailors who commanded a vast expanse of the central and western Seto Inland Sea during the Warring States period (14th Century). Referred to as the “largest kaizoku in Japan,” their activities had a significant impact on military, political, and maritime matters throughout the country.
Exciting Boat Trip in the Tidal Currents [Experience]
After that, get ready for an exciting boat ride! You will feel the wind on your face and experience the strong tides in a safe and fun cruise.
It’s a thrilling adventure you don’t want to miss!
Iwaso [Ryokan & Onsen (hot-spring)]
Iwaso is a 170-year-old hotel located on Miyajima Island, near the iconic Itsukushima Shrine. It is surrounded by a tranquil forest of maple trees, with a gentle stream flowing through it, and deer often seen wandering around, creating an authentic Japanese atmosphere.
Due to its position between Mount Misen and the iconic Itsukushima Shrine Torii, it offers a unique and breathtaking view from both sides, especially during moonlit nights.
Iwaso was also chosen as the location to the dinner of the G7 members that visited Miyajima Island in 2023.
SEKITEI [Japanese Garden Ryokan & Onsen (hot-spring)]
Sekitei is a traditional Japanese ryokan from which you can admire Miyajima Island. In this hotel, you can enjoy an onsen with an indoor cypress bath and a rotenburo (open-air bath) from which you will be able to enjoy the scenery of the night sky and the Seto Inland Sea. After a relaxing bath, take a stroll through the 4950 square meters Japanese garden, and immerse yourself in its tranquil ambiance.
